Australian Draw Lotteries
Lucky Lotteries
The Lucky Lotteries are raffle-style games offered in New South Wales. There are two games - the Super Jackpot and the Mega Jackpot.
In either game, the jackpot ticket number is drawn last. If the number selected has already won a cash prize (aside from any of the Consolation prizes), then the owner of that ticket wins the jackpot. However, the jackpot will roll over to the following draw if the ticket selected has not already picked up a cash prize (excluding Consolation prizes).
Super Jackpot
The Super Jackpot game has a set number of 225,000 tickets that must be sold before the draw can take place. Players can buy random ticket numbers or sequential numbers (from 1 to 225,000), but they cannot choose their own numbers. In the raffle, a ticket number is selected from the full list of ticket numbers that have been sold and is designated as the "jackpot" ticket. Entry into the draw costs just AU$2.20 per ticket.
The top prize has a minimum value of AU$500,000, which increases in value by AU$105,000 until it is won. Here's a breakdown of the prizes available:
- First (non-jackpot) prize - AU$100,000
- Second prize - AU$10,000
- Third prize - AU$5,000
- Fourth prize - two prizes of AU$500
- Fifth prize - ten prizes of AU$200
- Sixth prize - 20 prizes of AU$100
- Seventh prize - 100 prizes of AU$50
- Eighth prize - 600 prizes of AU$20
- Ninth prize - 2,480 prizes of AU$10
- One AU$1,000 prize for any ticket number that is one number off the first prize ticket - AU$1,000 (known as a Consolation prize)
- 6,430 free tickets for tickets one number off the winning number for the next eight prizes (known as a Consolation prize)
- One prize of ten free tickets for the ticket selected as the jackpot number if it does not win the jackpot
The odds of winning the Super Jackpot top prize are 1 in 15,746,501, while the odds for winning any prize (cash or a free ticket) are 1 in 24.
Mega Jackpot
The Mega Jackpot game offers a set number of 180,000 tickets per draw. Each ticket costs AU$5.50 and once all of the tickets have been sold, the raffle can commence. Much like the Super Jackpot, players can buy sequential ticket numbers or random ticket numbers from 1 to 180,000, but they are not allowed to choose their own numbers. A jackpot ticket number is then drawn from the tickets purchased. The Mega Jackpot top prize is always worth a minimum of AU$1 million and will increase by AU$235,000 every time the jackpot isn't won. Here's a prize breakdown:
- First (non-jackpot) prize - AU$200,000
- Second prize - AU$20,000
- Third prize - AU$5,000
- Fourth prize - Five prizes of AU$1,000
- Fifth prize - Ten prizes of AU$500
- Sixth prize - 25 prizes of AU$100
- Seventh prize - 75 prizes of AU$50
- Eighth prize - 600 prizes of AU$20
- Ninth prize - 3,090 prizes of AU$10
- Two AU$1,000 prizes for any ticket number that is one off the first prize ticket (Consolation prize)
- 7,616 free tickets for all other winners whose tickets are one number away from the winning ticket for the other eight prizes
- One prize of ten free tickets for the ticket selected as the jackpot number, provided that it does not win the jackpot
The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 16 and the odds of scooping the jackpot are 1 in 8,508,403.
