Oz Lotto Set To Bring In Changes From 11 May
Last Updated: Thursday, 7 April 2022, 10:50am
An update to Oz Lotto is set to create bigger jackpots and more winners. The changes are set to come into effect ahead of draw 1474 on Tuesday 17 May.
New Number Matrix
The number range will increase from 45 to 47. There will still be seven main winning numbers in every draw, but an extra supplementary number will also be selected.
There are currently two supplementaries drawn from the remaining numbers, so there will be three going forward. In total, 10 numbers out of 47 will therefore appear every Tuesday.
The minimum jackpot will be pushed up from $2 million to $3 million, putting a bigger Division 1 prize up for grabs after it has just been won.
The price of a single entry will go up by $0.10 per game (plus retailer commission), so the jackpot could be set to grow even quicker with more money going into the prize pot.
The odds of winning the jackpot will change from 1 in 45,379,620 to 1 in 62,891,499. This could lead to longer runs without a winner, driving up the Division 1 prize even more.
However, the overall odds of winning a prize will improve with the addition of a third supplementary number. The winning combinations are staying the same, so you can still win a prize by matching three main numbers and a single supplementary.
There will still be seven prize divisions, with the overall odds of winning a prize coming in from 1 in 55 to 1 in 51.
Prize Boost Events
Oz Lotto is also set to offer more special draws. These will take the form of ‘Prize Boost’ events, where the prize amounts in Divisions 2 to 7 will be increased whether the jackpot is won or not.
Matt Hart, spokesperson for lottery operator The Lott, is confident that players will relish playing the upgraded game. He said: “Players told us they wanted Oz Lotto to offer the potential for more winners and bigger prizes, and that’s exactly what we’ve given them.”
“Oz Lotto has a history of delivering big multi-million-dollar jackpots every Tuesday, and these enhancements will allow us to continue to provide value to players.”
This is only the second time in its 28-year history that Oz Lotto has undergone major changes, following an update in October 2005. Keep up to date with the latest Oz Lotto results every Tuesday to find out if you have won.
