A pair of neighbours from Western Sydney snapped up a share of the Saturday Lotto Superdraw jackpot on 16 October. There were six winning tickets in total, splitting the Division 1 prize of $20 million.
Superdraws only take place a few times a year, bumping up the jackpot to $20 million - that’s four times as much as the top prize in a regular draw. The winning numbers for the latest one on Saturday were 2, 7, 17, 26, 27 and 38, plus supplementaries 1 and 19, and there were big winners throughout Australia.
Two of the winning tickets were sold in Victoria, two in Western Australia, one in Queensland, and one in New South Wales. Each one was worth more than $3.3 million.
The New South Wales winners were the first to speak to lottery officials, as they had played online and were contacted straight after the draw.
“I’m going halves with my neighbour. We’ve been playing together for almost two years,” said one of the duo. “We both had knots in our stomachs when we checked the ticket on Saturday night.
“We just kept checking it over and over again and really thought this could not happen to us. The amount of times we’ve sat around at home and discussed what we’d do if we won the lottery.
“It’s incomprehensible! It’s life-changing in so many ways. If I had to sum it up in one word, it would be magnificent.”
The winner added that he would use the money to buy a new house and plan for an early retirement.
Winners Across Australia
The winning Queensland ticket was sold in Indooroopilly, at Metro News on 1st – Shop 1002, Level 1 Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, 318 Moggill Road. It belonged to a man from Brisbane, who described the win as ‘magical’ and said he just could not stop laughing.
Of the two Victoria wins, one went to a syndicate of 10 players from Morwell. The System 8 Quick PIck also scored prizes in Divisions 3 to 6, taking the total win up by more than $10,000.
The other Victoria winners were a couple from Springvale South, Melbourne, who said they were looking forward to sharing their good fortune with friends and family. They said: “We just want to help as much as possible.”
The winning Western Australia tickets were sold at Here’s Luck Lottery Centre in Cloverdale and Newsexpress Ocean Keys in Clarkson.
More Big Draws on the Way
The Saturday Lotto jackpot will be worth $5 million for the next draw, while there are other big Division 1 prizes up for grabs throughout the week.
Oz Lotto is up to $30 million following four draws without a winner, while Powerball stands at $60 million. Check the latest results as soon as they have taken place.
