Saturday Lotto Winner ‘Freaked Out’ by Quirk of Fate

Last Updated: Tuesday 4th October 2016, 10:53 am

A man from Koo Wee Rup can claim to be responsible for a series of coincidences after winning a share of the Saturday Lotto first division prize. As well as giving the store which sold him the all-important ticket a very special reason to celebrate its three-year anniversary, the win also arrived on the same day as a big sporting occasion when he had previously struck lucky on the game.

The winner, who has decided to remain anonymous, was one of five players to match all six main numbers in the latest draw on Saturday 1st October, landing a share of more than $4 million. It came on the day of the Australian Football League Grand Final, and left him ‘absolutely stoked’, as well as completely shocked.

“It’s actually a bit freaky because three years ago on grand final day I won a second division prize of about $15,000 with my 50-game QuickPick ticket as well!” he explained to TattsLotto officials. “I’m a Tigers supporter so maybe next year they’ll win the grand final and I’ll win TattsLotto again.”

As the lucky man looks forward to next year and perhaps seeing his beloved Richmond win the AFL title, he has not yet decided how to spend his $802,260 winnings but says he has a lot of ‘fantastic’ options. The owner of the store which sold him the ticket is similarly delighted, saying the news will provide a real boost to the community.

Cath Peterson, from the Koo Wee Rup Newsagency, said: “Good things certainly come in threes! We’ve now sold our first division one-winning ticket on the third anniversary of our business opening - to the very date! It’s fantastic, we’re still saying ‘wow!’”

The numbers drawn on Saturday were 6, 14, 22, 26, 35 and 37, with supplementary numbers 10 and 31. You can check out the Saturday Lotto Results page for more information about recent draws, and then look ahead to the next game this weekend. The division one prize will again be worth $4 million, and tickets can be bought online from around the world as well as from authorised retailers in Australia.
