Saturday Lotto Jackpots Will Increase From 14 December

Last Updated: Monday 2 December 2019, 10:55 am

Changes have been announced for Saturday Lotto which will see more prize money allocated to Division 1. Find out more about the update to the game, which will be made ahead of draw number 4007 on Saturday 14 December 2019.

Changes to Division 1 and Division 6

Prizes in Saturday Lotto work on a pari-mutuel basis, with a percentage of the prize fund given to each of the six divisions. This money is then divided equally between all the winners in each division, so the prize amounts vary from draw to draw depending on how many tickets have been sold and the number of winners.

From Saturday 14 December, the amount allocated to Divisions 1 and 6 will be updated. The percentage apportioned to the jackpot will increase from 28 percent to 30 percent, while the Division 6 allocation will come down from 26.8 percent to 24.8 percent.

The estimated jackpot for Division 1 has traditionally been $4 million but, with more money going to the jackpot, the biggest winners are now set to be even more handsomely rewarded. The Division 1 prize will also be able to increase more quickly if a draw ever passes without anyone matching all of the numbers.

The Division 6 prize is for players who match one or two of the six main numbers plus the two supplementary numbers that are drawn from the remaining 39 balls. The payout is usually between $12 and $17, but the average may come down slightly once a lower percentage is allocated to it.

For example, in the draw on 30th November, the Division 6 prize was $16.30. Under the new system, it would have been $15.10. The seven winners of the jackpot, however, would each have received $629,599 instead of the $587,936 they were paid.

The other four prize divisions will remain the same and there will be no other changes made to the game. You can still look forward to regular Superdraws where the jackpot is bumped up to a guaranteed $20 million, while a $30 million Megadraw is also set to take place on 28 December. Wagga Wagga Woman Wins Big

There were seven Division 1 winners in the most recent Saturday Lotto draw on 30 November, each taking home $587,936. Three of the lucky players came from Queensland, two from Western Australia, one from South Australia and one from New South Wales.

The New South Wales winner - a woman from Wagga Wagga - also won 18 prizes in Division 3 and 45 prizes in Division 4, boosting her total payout to more than $609,000. She had played a System 9 entry on the ticket she bought from Nextra Sturt Mall, Shop 21, Sturt Mall, 135 Baylis Street.

Contacted by an NSW Lotteries official, she said she was in ‘sheer shock’ that her numbers had appeared after about 10 years of playing with them. She added: “It has arrived at the best time of the year. We will certainly enjoy Christmas. But the rest, gosh, I couldn’t even tell you at the moment.”

Keep an eye out for the latest Saturday Lotto Results after every draw, ahead of the changes to the game on 14 December.
