Saturday Lotto Jackpot Jumps Up To $8 Million

Last Updated: Wednesday 22 April 2020, 15:28 pm

For the first time in four years, there were no winners of the Saturday Lotto jackpot in the latest draw. The top prize will now climb to AU$8 million for the next draw on 25th April.

The winning numbers for Saturday 18th April were 23, 24, 29, 39, 40 and 41. There were over 430,000 winning tickets in the draw, but not a single entry matched all six main numbers. The biggest winners were the 50 players who matched five main numbers plus a supplementary number - 5 and 37 – to pocket $11,281 each.

The last time that a Saturday Lotto draw was held which failed to produce a winner was in August 2016. There was then a run of 191 draws with at least one winner until Saturday.

Saturday Lotto offers a guaranteed jackpot of $4 million but this is not a fixed amount – it is the minimum. It is just that there are virtually always winners due to the good odds and the popularity of the game.

The upcoming draw will therefore offer one of the largest jackpots in years. There have occasionally been larger prizes up for grabs, but only when special events such as Superdraws, Megadraws and Million-YEAH draws have taken place.

Saturday’s draw will work in exactly the same way as a normal draw, just with a jackpot that is twice as big. If it rolls over again, an even larger jackpot will be offered in the following draw.

Sydney Woman Claims Megadraw Prize

Lotto winners usually claim their jackpots quickly, but one woman from Sydney left it almost four months to receive the $2.7 million she won in the Megadraw on 28th December.

She was one of 11 players who shared $30 million, but was unaware of her good fortune as the winning ticket had been kept in the bottom of her handbag.

The woman, who has decided to stay anonymous, said: “Well a friend bought me that ticket. So I will certainly be sharing some with them. But the rest I don’t know.  It’s still in shock and it will take some time to figure out.

“I’m isolating at home at the moment so I will have plenty of time to think about it, but I know I will definitely be sharing it with my family.”
