Queenslander Wins Division 1 Prize For the Second Time

Last Updated: Monday 30 December 2019, 08:46 am

A man from Queensland has called himself ‘the luckiest man alive’ after he was revealed as one of the 11 jackpot winners in Saturday night’s Megadraw. Informed by lottery officials that he had won $2.7 million, he gave them some surprising news in return by declaring that he had previously won a Division 1 prize.

The Saturday Lotto Megadraw is one of the biggest events of the year in Australia, offering a jackpot worth $30 million. The winning numbers on Saturday were 1, 13, 19, 31, 37 and 39, plus supplementary numbers 5 and 33.

There were over 1.9 million winning tickets across the country, with 11 players matching all six main numbers to split the Division 1 prize. One came from Western Australia, two from South Australia and three from New South Wales, but Queensland was the luckiest location with five jackpot winners.

And the winner from Nerang on the Gold Coast felt the most fortunate of all, having already hit the jackpot once in his life. “You probably won't believe it, but I have won division one before," he told a lottery representative over the phone.

“Only a few years ago I shared a million-dollar winning syndicate with my friend. Now I'm a multi-millionaire. It's unbelievable. I think I am the luckiest man alive. I'm still dizzy after checking my ticket last night. I think I am still in shock."

'Incredible Win'

The Queenslander purchased his lucky entry from Ashmore News Extra in Ashmore Plaza. He is now looking forward to cutting down his work hours and travelling the world with his wife.

He said: “I think we will start with a holiday to New Zealand. Then a cruise and who knows what else. Maybe we will fly business class. It will be incredible."

It has been a spectacular Christmas for lottery players throughout Australia, with jackpots worth $20 million and $24 million won on Oz Lotto and Powerball respectively over the Christmas period.

There will also be Double Your Win events in this week’s Monday and Wednesday Lotto draws, increasing the payouts for all players who win in Division 2 or lower. Check out the latest Australia Lottery results after every draw.
