Perth Player Puts Legoland on ‘Silly List’ After Set For Life Win

Last Updated: Monday 20 May 2019, 12:26 pm

A man from Perth has no plans to retire after winning the top prize in Set For Life. Instead, he has drawn up two different lists to ensure that he looks after his new-found wealth responsibly but still manages to have some fun.

The lucky player matched all eight numbers in the draw on Saturday 11th May, winning $20,000 a month for the next 20 years. The total payout will be $4.8 million, but as he is still an apprentice in his 20s, he has decided to press on with his career.

“I would have been happy with winning $10,” said the man, who bought his ticket from Wongan Newsagency and has decided to remain anonymous. He has promised to be sensible and spend most of the money wisely, but he still wants to be extravagant at times. “On my ‘silly’ list is a plan to go to Legoland and buy $20,000 worth of Lego,” he said.

‘What The Game Is All About’

Lotterywest, the official operator of Set For Life in Western Australia, congratulated the winner on his big windfall, highlighting how the game is ideal for many players as it guarantees them a good income over a long period of time rather than a one-off prize.

“Winning Set for Life is the perfect prize for young players as $20,000 a month for 20 years is a great way to enjoy the winnings over an extended time,” said Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge. “The fact our most recent winner says that while the win is life-changing and will give him a comfortable lifestyle, that he will continue to work, is what this game is all about.”

The Set For Life win made it a memorable weekend for Western Australia lottery players, as a woman from the state also won a $3.3 million share of the Saturday Lotto Superdraw jackpot.

The winner did not make a statement about the win straight away, but her husband has now spoken about it and described how it was just the latest unexpected major event in his life. He said: “There are two things you don’t think will happen to you – one is a life-threatening accident and the other is winning Lotto. I’ve had both happen to me and I still can’t quite believe it.”

Set For Life is the only Australian National Lottery game that can be played every day of the week. You have to select eight numbers from 1 to 37 and match them all to win the jackpot, but there are seven other ways to win in every draw.

As well as Set For Life draws, you can enjoy Oz Lotto on Tuesdays and Powerball on Thursdays, while there are separate Lotto draws on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
