Syndicates Win Big on Oz Lotto and Saturday Lotto

It has been a spectacular week for a couple of syndicates, after lottery groups from Victoria and Queensland won big Division 1 prizes. A team of 20 manufacturing workers from North Lakes in the Moreton Bay region won $3.9 million on Saturday Lotto, before Tuesday’s $15 million Oz Lotto jackpot was split between 20 syndicate shares in Melbourne.
Moreton Bay Winners Shell Shocked
The syndicate from Moreton Bay matched the Saturday Lotto numbers 9, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 36. In addition to winning the jackpot, the group won 24 prizes in Division 3 and 90 prizes in Division 4 as they had played a System 10 entry to cover more combinations.
The total payout was $4,001,888, which worked out at more than $200,000 for each member of the group. The syndicate leader was left ‘shaking’ when she was contacted with the news that they had won, and said it would take some time to sink in.
“I’m absolutely shell shocked,” she said. “They won’t believe it! They’ll think I’m winding them up. This is just unbelievable and will change the lives of so many people who work here. I can’t wait to tell everyone. We’re always so happy when we get a little win, we usually go out for coffee but this is incredible. This is going to be enormous for everyone. It is unbelievable.”
One member of the group is even about to retire, and the syndicate leader admitted that others could also give up work as a result. Speaking about how everyone would react, she said: “I think there will be some tears. Then we will definitely be having some champagne to celebrate. I may have a few vacancies to fill!”
Melbourne Winners May Not All Know
The Melbourne syndicate that won Tuesday’s $15 million Oz Lotto jackpot was set up by Racecourse Lucky Lotto & News, Shop 4, 338-390 Racecourse Road, Newmarket. Shares were purchased from nine different newsagencies and some of them were unregistered, meaning the winners may not yet know.
Everyone who bought a share is set to become more than $754,000 richer, as the syndicate also won more than 600 other prizes between Divisions 2 and 7.
Tuan Nguyen, owner of Racecourse Lucky Lotto & News, said: “I found out the syndicate won last night after the draw. It’s great news for the syndicate members. Seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars each is very nice. This syndicate is called Test Your Luck No. 2 which we put on when the Oz Lotto jackpot starts to climb.”
Oz Lotto is Australia’s oldest national lottery game, having been established in 1994. It still holds the record for offering the largest prize ever seen in the country, dating back to the $111 million jackpot split between four winners in November 2012.
The highest jackpot currently available is the $30 million top prize up for grabs in Powerball. Oz Lotto will reset to $2 million following the latest big win, but there are games to be played all through the week with Monday Lotto, Wednesday Lotto and Saturday Lotto, plus the daily Set For Life.
