Oz Lotto Jackpot Climbs To $70 Million

Last Updated: Tuesday 11th June 2019, 15:26 pm

The next Oz Lotto draw on Tuesday 18th June is set to be one of the most eagerly anticipated of all time after the jackpot increased to $70 million. Lottery officials have even predicted that as many as one in four Australian adults will take part in the game.

The First Division prize has been building for seven weeks in a row since one ticket holder pocketed $15 million back on 23rd April. The latest jackpot, worth $50 million, once again remained just out of reach, although more than 720,000 players picked up prizes. Fourteen of those participants matched six numbers plus a Supplementary to win $33,152 each. Go to the Oz Lotto Results page to see the winning numbers and a full prize breakdown.

The jackpot is now set to jump by $20 million for the next draw, leading to even more excitement from players across the country. With a quarter of eligible players expected to buy at least one ticket, Matt Hart, spokesperson for lottery provider The Lott, can’t wait. He said: “$70 million is an eye-catching prize and one of the biggest jackpots we’ve seen so far in 2019. It’s certainly more than enough to make some Aussie dreams a reality.”

It has been six and a half years since a larger jackpot was offered in Oz Lotto, dating back to the record $111 million prize from November 2012. On that occasion, four players matched all seven main numbers to win almost $28 million each.

The jackpot has reached $70 million several times since then, most recently on 26th March this year, but it has then always been won before climbing any higher. That could be a good omen for players entering the next draw, and Hart is looking forward to crowning another winner.

Where Will The Next Winner Come From?

Hart said: “So far this year, only five entries have snagged the sought-after Oz Lotto division one prize – three of these were from Victoria, while there was one each from New South Wales and Tasmania. We can’t wait to see where our next Oz Lotto division one winner heralds from; perhaps we’ll find out after next Tuesday’s draw!”

When the jackpot last hit $70 million, there were three winning tickets. Remarkably, two of them belonged to the same man from Melbourne, who had forgotten about the first ticket he bought and so ended up purchasing another entry. He had been playing the same numbers for around 30 years and his forgetfulness resulted in him getting a larger share of the winnings.

Shocked to hear that he had won not just once but twice, the lucky player said he would think about retiring, buy a new home and share the wealth with his family. The other winning ticket was purchased in Hobart, Tasmania.

To win the Oz Lotto jackpot, you must select seven numbers from 1 to 45 and match all of the main numbers that are drawn. Two Supplementary numbers are also selected at random from the remaining 38 balls, giving you the chance to boost your winnings in certain prize tiers.
