Brisbane Man Shocked by $60 Million Powerball Win

A man from Brisbane in Queensland has set his sights on a new home and plenty of holidays after winning a Powerball Division 1 prize of $60 million.
The lucky winner was the only player nationally to match the winning numbers of 5, 15, 20, 27, 28, 29 and 34, plus the Powerball of 8, in draw 1338 on Thursday 6 January.
Nobody had won the jackpot since 2 December and more than 1.7 million players picked up prizes as they tried to bring that run to an end. Go to the Powerball Results page to see a breakdown of all the dividends for the draw.
The single Division 1 winner was contacted shortly after the draw by lottery officials and admitted it felt ‘unreal’.
He said: “I think anyone who gets hit with this info would think it’s surreal. It’s just unbelievable.
There is a massive shock factor. You always daydream, but you never really expect it to happen. It’s a lottery after all! For me, it’s a lot to process. I just didn’t really expect it.”
The man, in his 30s, initially thought there must be a glitch in the system when he checked his lottery results online. He can now look forward to a bright future, and although he is not quite sure exactly what he will do with all the money, he fully intends to help others and carry on working.
“I don’t think I’m going to get a lot of sleep tonight,” said the winner. “It’s a lot to think about now. I know the money will help a lot of people. I can buy my first house, help family and friends and have plenty of holidays. I still plan to turn up to work in 2022 too!”
The Powerball win is the latest big pay day in a bumper start to 2022 for lottery players across Australia. The annual Saturday Lotto Megadraw, held on New Year’s Eve, offered a $40 million jackpot for the first time. There were 17 winners, who all received $2.3 million.
The next Saturday Lotto draw will feature a jackpot of $10 million, while there are other draws to enjoy every day of the week.
