Adelaide Man Feared Computer Glitch After Big Oz Lotto Win

A man from Adelaide has revealed that he thought there must have been some mistake when he won a $10 Million Oz Lotto jackpot. Having suddenly become richer than he could ever have imagined, he says it will take some time to figure out how to spend the money.
The lucky player matched the numbers 7, 20, 22, 27, 29, 32 and 40 in the Oz Lotto draw on Tuesday 27th August. He bought his 50-game Quick Pick entry online and was overjoyed to check the results online and see he had won, but his overriding feeling was one of disbelief.
Contacted by lottery officials the following morning when they confirmed the news, he said: “I’m hoping you are calling up to tell me that there wasn’t a computer glitch and I did in fact win? That’s a bit weird! It’s so surreal I checked my ticket online last night and I thought I was reading it wrong. I called my missus over to check it too and we were sure there must be some mistake.”
Asked how it felt to become a multimillionaire overnight, the winner admitted that was the ‘weirdest thing’ anyone had ever said to him. He insisted he would not rush into spending his new-found wealth, which also included another $23.85 win from the same ticket in division six. One thing he is sure of, though, is that he wants to carry on working for now.
“I haven’t even given it any thought to how I would spend it. We didn’t do anything to celebrate. I just wanted to get confirmation of what was happening,” said the winner, who has decided to remain anonymous rather than go public.
“I don’t think I’ll give up work yet. You have to do something with your days. So me and my missus are off to work and we are sending the kids off to school. It’s business as usual today. Although I might go and spend that extra $23 I won! I don’t mind spending that all at once!”
Big Australian Jackpots
Oz Lotto is played every Tuesday evening and gives away jackpots that have been known to climb higher than $100 million. The biggest prize in history dates back to November 2012, when four ticket holders split $111 million.
The biggest prize currently up for grabs in Australia is in Powerball, which has shot up to $80 million on the back of six consecutive rollovers. It is now approaching the record that was set just last month on 18th July, when $110 million was shared between three winners. The next Powerball draw will be on Thursday 5th September.
