A man from Richmond is looking forward to travelling the world and setting himself up for the future after winning the top prize in Saturday’s Set for Life draw. With his finances now secure for the next 20 years, he is keen to take some time off work to enjoy his big win.
The lucky player, who is in his 30s, matched the numbers 2, 3, 10, 18, 20, 24, 28 and 34 on 29 February. Contacted after the draw by lottery officials to confirm that he would now be receiving $20,000 every month for 20 years, he struggled to stay calm.
He said: “Twenty years of prize payments? Oh my god. My heart is racing. I had absolutely no idea. Gosh I need to take this in. It doesn’t feel real.”
Thinking ahead to the next two decades, the winner revealed that he would be taking a break from his job so that he could visit lots of exciting new places, but the best part of it was that it would take away all his money worries.
“It’s so much money,” he said. “I never thought this would be something I would need to think about. I will definitely pay off my mortgage.
“I would love to take a year off work to travel the world as well. There are so many places I have wanted to visit for so long, so that would be amazing. Most of my prize will be going to travel and setting myself up for the future.”
The winner, who has decided to stay anonymous, purchased his 5-SET entry at Victoria Gardens Lotto, Kiosk 3, Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre, 620 Victoria Street in Richmond. The owner of the store, Dave Zhu, offered his congratulations.
“I am really excited. When I first found out I couldn’t believe it,” said Zhu. “How wonderful for our winner. We have been sharing the news with all of our customers and they are very happy for us. Hopefully we make more of our customers major prize winners.”
Set for Life Changes On The Way
There have now been 58 winners of the top prize in Set for Life since the game was launched in 2015. The odds of winning the jackpot will also improve from Monday 23 March, when a series of major changes will be made to the game.
The new format will require you to pick seven numbers from 1 to 44 rather than eight numbers from 1 to 37. The Division 2 prize will also change to $5,000 a month for a year, while you will only have to match three numbers plus a supplementary number to win a prize.
