Powerball Winner Plans a Year Off Work

The latest Australian Powerball winner says she may take a year off work to go travelling after scooping $35 million in Thursday night’s draw. The woman, who bought her ticket from the Thistle Kiosk Lotto in Woden, Canberra, hails from the south of the capital and is said to be in her 40s, although she has opted to remain anonymous.
The lucky ticket holder matched the winning line 3, 8, 16, 17, 24 and 38 with Powerball 5 on Thursday 4th August and only found out about her good fortune when she returned to the retailer the next day to check her ticket. The Canberra Times quoted her as saying, “I’ve never won anything before. I still can’t believe this is happening.” You can see the full prize breakdown for the draw at the Lottery Results page.
Top on the list of priorities for the brand-new millionaire is paying off her own and her mother’s mortgages. She also pledged to share some of her win with her brother, who alerted her to the bulging Division One prize pool in the first place. The winner admitted she didn’t take part in Powerball every week, stating, "my brother is the regular player in the family, he religiously buys his weekly entry so he'll be really jealous, but of course I'll give him some money as a big thank you.”
When asked about whether she will continue with the nine-to-five, she confessed, “I might tell work I'm not coming in for a year; they can cope without me. I'll take some time to travel and holiday in Europe."
The win marked the third Division One success on a ticket bought at the Thistle Kiosk Lotto in recent memory and is a fitting way for owner Graham Barker to end his tenure before he retires. When asked about the win, he remarked “I feel like I’m going out with a bang!”
Powerball returns on Thursday with $3 million on offer if you can match all six main numbers and the Powerball, with Tuesday’s Oz Lotto top prize standing at a mighty $20 million.Visit the Buy Tickets page to play Australian lotteries online wherever you are in the world. Good luck!
