Last Thursday’s Australian Powerball draw saw two lucky ticket holders hit the jackpot and win a share of the huge AU$70 million Division 1 prize, which was the second largest top prize seen in the game’s history. The winning tickets were purchased in Queensland and Sydney and the holders of both tickets have now claimed their multi-million dollar prizes.
One ticket was purchased from the Bonnyrigg Plaza Newsagency, Bonnyrigg by a 15-member syndicate who work together in Western Sydney. The syndicate chose to remain anonymous, but they did speak to officials about some of their members plans for their winning which include paying off mortgages, early retirement and charitable donations. Each member of the syndicate will receive AU$2.4 million as their share of the AU$35.9 million winnings.
The other jackpot winner from the draw was a Sunshine Coast resident who purchased her winning ticket from the aptly named Lucky Charm Noosaville shop on Eenie Creek Road in Noosaville. The overwhelmed winner, who also opted for anonymity, plans to retire and share her AU$35.9 million fortune with her family.
These winners come in second place on the Australian Powerball Division 1 winners list behind the two winners from Western Sydney and Melbourne, who shared an AU$80 million jackpot on 30th July 2009.
Following this impressive win, the Australian Powerball Division 1 prize has reset to AU$3 million for Thursday’s draw. Click on the “Play the National Lottery” tab on the right of this page to buy your Australian Powerball tickets!
