The Australian Powerball jackpot has risen to an amazing AUD $70 million after no ticket holders were able to match all six main numbers and the Powerball drawn on Thursday 14th August. This is the second largest jackpot prize that has ever been offered by the Australian Powerball lottery.
If the AUD $70 million jackpot is won by a single ticket on Thursday 21st August, it will be the largest single jackpot prize in Australian history. Two ticket holders split a record-breaking AUD $80 million Powerball jackpot in July 2009, which was the highest-ever Powerball prize.
Australian shop owners have been overwhelmed by vastly increased ticket sales as regular lottery players and one-off punters compete for the amazing top prize. Phillip Nguyen, a newsagent in Bankstown, Sydney, reported that he had to stay open for an extra hour as the ticket machine “was running non-stop”.
Mr Nguyen had also noticed that many of the customers coming in to buy tickets had never bought tickets at his shop before. Joe Izzo, another Sydney-based newsagent, advised potential lottery players to buy their tickets early to avoid any queues in the last few hours before the draw takes place.
If you want to give the poor newsagents a break and skip the inevitable queues, you can buy Australian Powerball tickets online by clicking on the Buy Tickets window to the right-hand side of this page. The draw takes place on Thursday 21st August at 8:30 PM AEST. Good luck!
